Mission Statement:  To prepare students for a lifelong journey of learning and service to be productive citizens in our community.

August 18, 2021

Dear Firestone Park Family,

Welcome to the start of the 2021-2022 school year!  My name is Lynnette Stevens and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Firestone Park Elementary!  At the close of last school year, Mrs. Jones retired and Ms. Curry, the Dean of Students, accepted another position.  Therefore, I welcome Jessica Holler to Firestone Park as our new Dean of Students!  Our goal is to ensure that your child receives a high-quality education in a safe and supportive learning environment.

The Firestone Park Instructional Staff will provide your child with a rigorous curriculum that promotes leadership, learning, and service!  Together we will partner with you to make sure your child has the best educational experience!

In order to help your child succeed in school, we have set forth (4) School-Wide Expectations for him/her to adhere to each day.  We ask that you regularly review these expectations (S3R) with your child at home.  They are as follows:

1. Be Safe

2. Be Respectful

3. Be Responsible

4. Be Ready to Learn

In addition to promoting student achievement and positive behavior, we encourage parental involvement.  Research shows students achieve more when their parents are actively involved in their education.  For that reason, there will be several opportunities for you to participate in school activities throughout the year, including our Open-House/Ice-Cream Social on Tuesday, August 24th from 4-6pm for Grades K-1 and 5-7pm for grades 2-5 (see the attached flyer).

Students in grades 4-5 will start school on Monday, August 30th.  Students in grades K-3 will start school on Thursday, September 2nd.  Classes begin at 8:30 a.m. and dismissal is at 2:30 p.m.  All students in grades K-3 will have assessment screenings Monday, August 30th through Wednesday, September 1st.  Please call the school office at 330-761-1517 to schedule your child’s assessment appointment.

School hours will be as follows:

7:50 a.m. Entrance for Breakfast

8:10 a.m. Student Arrival (if student is not having breakfast)

8:25 a.m. Morning Announcements

8:30 a.m. Tardy Bell/Class Instruction Begins

2:30 p.m. Dismissal

Class lists indicating student homerooms and teacher assignments will be posted on the doors of the main entrance (Door 1) on Tuesday, August 24th.

As we prepare to welcome all students back to in-person learning, I want to share with you some important information to help you prepare your child for school.  If your child is a returning student, you should have received an APS school packet.  This packet contains valuable information including how to update your child’s emergency contact and medical information.

Safety Procedures/Protocols:

Assessing Symptoms

  • Students and staff will be required to do daily self-health checks prior to going to school. Anyone with COVID symptoms or a temperature above 100°F should stay home.

  • Symptom monitoring of all students/staff at school and return home if symptomatic.

  • Students showing symptoms of COVID will be removed to a separate dedicated clinic and then released to parents/guardians.

  • The district will follow guidance from Summit County Public Health if a staff member or student needs to self-quarantine.

Face Coverings

  • All teachers/staff must wear masks unless they qualify for a medical exception

  • All students will be required to wear a mask while in school unless they qualify for a medical exception.

  • Students and staff can be outside without masks.

Cleaning

  • Frequent hand washing or hand sanitizing throughout the day

  • Hand sanitizers in classrooms and high traffic areas in school, including entrances to school

  • Daily frequent cleaning of high-use items (e.g., door knobs, restrooms)

  • Scheduled deep cleaning of schools

  • Educating students on proper hand washing, physical distancing, appropriate use of face masks, cough and sneeze etiquette and the importance of staying home when sick or displaying symptoms

Physical Routine Changes

  • Classrooms will return to normal setups. When possible, 3 feet of social distancing will be implemented.

  • Visitation of schools will be limited and may be restricted to only designated locations.

  • Sharing of supplies and materials will be minimized, and supplies/materials will be sanitized.

  • Floor markings and signs to encourage proper movement throughout the building will be in place.

Student Dress Code:  Students are not required to wear uniforms this school year.  However, students must adhere to the standard dress code which prohibits slippers, pajamas, sandals without back strips, tank tops, inappropriate writing or pictures on clothes and the like.

Student Supplies:  A supply list was sent to the home of each student and emailed during the summer.  We encourage you to label your child’s school supplies with his/her name.

Student Attendance:  It is extremely important and expected that your child attends school everyday unless he/she is ill.  There is a direct correlation between student attendance and student achievement!  Children want and need to be in school.  When they miss a day they miss a lot!  When they return, they are often lost and become frustrated for not knowing the missed learning.  Help your child succeed in school by making sure he/she is there everyday ready to learn!

Dismissal:  Kindergarten and 1st-grade students will exit the building via Door 2 and must be picked-up by a parent or guardian.  Students in grades 2 and 3 will exit the building through Door 9.  Grades 4 and 5 students will exit the building through Door 1.

Early Dismissal:  Please try to schedule your child’s doctors’ appointments during non school hours.  Any student who needs to leave early must be picked up by 2:00 p.m.  All parents/guardians must show proper identification in order to sign out his/her child.  Moreover, All Visitors Must Wear Masks Upon Entering the Building.

Finally, please know that our staff is committed to partnering with you in order for your child to have a successful school year!  Should you have any questions about returning to school, please contact the main office at 330-761-1517.  Your opinion matters!

Thank you and we look forward to working with you and your child really soon!

Best Regards,

Ms. Lynnette Stevens Mrs. Jessica Holler
