Mission Statement:  To prepare students for a lifelong journey of learning and service to be productive citizens in our community.

August 10, 2022

Dear Firestone Park Family,

Welcome to the start of the 2022-2023 school year!  We are very excited about partnering with you so that your child has a successful academic year!  Our goal is to ensure that your child receives a high-quality education in a safe and supportive learning environment.

In order to help your child succeed this year, we have set forth (4) School-Wide Expectations for him/her to adhere to each day.  We ask that you regularly review the following expectations with your child at home:

1. Be Safe

2. Be Respectful

3. Be Responsible

4. Be Ready to Learn

In addition to promoting student achievement and positive behavior, we encourage parental involvement.  Please know that you are an integral part of our school community, and we hope that you work closely with your child’s teachers to help him/her be successful.  Research shows students achieve more when their parents are actively involved in their education.  For that reason, there will be several opportunities for you to participate in school activities throughout the year, including our Annual Open-House/Ice-Cream Social on Thursday, August 25th from 4-6pm (see the enclosed flier).  Please note the following important dates:

Monday, August 29th First Day of School for Grades 4 and 5

Monday-Wednesday, August 29-31st Screening and Assessments for Grades K-3 (please call the school

to schedule your child’s appointment)

Thursday, September 1st First Day of School for Grades K-3

Monday, September 5th Labor Day–No School

School hours are as follows:

7:50 a.m. Entrance for Breakfast

8:10 a.m. Student Arrival (if student is not having breakfast)

8:15 a.m. Morning Announcements

8:30 a.m. Tardy Bell/Instruction Begins (all students should arrive prior to 8:25 in order to be on time)

2:30 p.m. Dismissal

Class lists indicating student homerooms and teacher assignments will be posted on the doors of the main entrance (Door 1) on Thursday, August 25th.

Student Dress Code:  Students are not required to wear uniforms this school year.  However, students must adhere to the standard Akron Board of Education dress code which prohibits pajamas, slippers, flip flops, strapless shoes, spaghetti strap tops, inappropriate writing or pictures on clothing, and inappropriate headwear such as hoods, bonnets, scarves and du-rags.  Pants must be secured at the waist, and skirts and shorts should be no more than fingertip length above the knee.  Tops must cover the midriff area.  Currently, masks are optional.

Student Supplies:  A school supply list was sent home at the end of last school year.   Still, each student will receive a free backpack and school supplies this year.  We encourage you to label your child’s school supplies with his/her name.

Student Attendance:  It is extremely important and expected that your child attends school everyday unless he/she is ill.  There is a direct correlation between student attendance and student achievement!  Children want and need to be in school.  When they miss a day they miss a lot!  When they return, they are often lost and become frustrated for not knowing the learning they missed.  Help your child succeed in school by making sure he/she attends school everyday on time ready to learn!

Dismissal:  Kindergarten and 1st-grade students will exit the building via Door 2 and must be picked-up by a parent or guardian.  Students in grades 2 and 3 will exit the building through Door 9.  Grades 4 and 5 students will exit the building through Door 1.  Please make sure your child and your child’s teacher know how he/she gets home each day.  If there is a change to that schedule, be sure to inform your child’s teacher or the school office of that change (preferably in writing) to ensure a smooth transition.

Early Dismissal:  Any student who needs to leave early must be picked up by 2:00 p.m.  Therefore, please try to schedule your child’s doctors’ appointments during non school hours.  All parents/guardians must show proper identification in order to sign out his/her child.

Should you have any questions about returning to school, please contact the main office at 330-761-1517.

Thank you and we look forward to working with you and your child this school year!

Best Regards,

Lynnette Jessica Diane
